Domaine Michel Lafarge Bourgogne Rouge 2023
Pinot Noir from estate parcels around Volnay on shallow, stony limestone–clay; the domaine farms biodynamically and harvests by hand. The fruit is sorted with a measured share of whole clusters when perfectly ripe, then fermented with indigenous yeasts in open vats with gentle extraction. Élevage runs ~12 months in older 228-L pièces (no new oak), with minimal racking; SO₂ is modest and added after malolactic. Bottling is done without fining and only a light filtration if needed.
Complex bouquet of plums, red and black cherries, gamebird, woodsmoke, a base of dark soil tones, raw cocoa and a gently floral topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and shows a refined undercarriage of moderate tannin, with find focus, balance and precision on the long backend. Fine juice.
