Frerejean Freres Grand Reserve BdB

Founded in the Grand Cru village of Avize by three cousins bearing the storied Frerejean-Taittinger name, this house draws on generations of Côte des Blancs winemaking heritage. Guillaume, Richard, and Rodolphe farm with a low-intervention, low-chemical philosophy, hand-selecting fruit from prized Grand and Premier Cru plots around Avize, Cramant, and Grauves. Each cuvée is patiently assembled from dozens of parcel wines and aged a minimum of five years on the lees, an unusually long commitment that lends depth rarely found at this level.

In the glass, this 100% Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs shows a pale gold hue with a fine, persistent mousse. The nose opens with citrus zest, white orchard fruit, and hints of passion fruit and mango, layered over a toasty, brioche-like autolytic character from extended aging. The palate is generous and vinous, balancing racy Côte des Blancs minerality with a rounder, almost oxidative richness, finishing long and saline.

A Blanc de Blancs of real complexity and personality, offering grower-Champagne character and small-batch craftsmanship at a price well below many grande marque houses.
