Lopez de Heredia, Gravonia Crianza White 2017

"An elegant, scented nose, showing macadamia nuts, light yellow apples and a touch of seaweed. Elegant and fluid on the palate with bright acidity and a long, lightly saline finish. 100% viura."

R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia is one of the oldest, most traditional wineries in Rioja, Spain. Founded in 1877 by Don Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta, it is world-renowned for its strict adherence to historic winemaking methods, long oak aging, and distinctively complex, age-worthy wines, Between 1913 and 1914, Don Rafael planted the winery's crown jewel, an alluvial masterpiece located on a bend of the Ebro River.

The family went on to establish three other distinct vineyards to capture diverse terroirs: Viña Cubillo, Viña Bosconia, and Viña Gravonia.

The winery remains 100% family-owned, managed today by the fourth generation, including María José and Mercedes López de Heredia. While the rest of Rioja modernized in the 1970s and 1980s, the family famously refused to buy stainless steel tanks or control temperatures with computers. It remains one of the few wineries in the world to maintain its own workshop, where a master cooper handcrafts and repairs all their old American oak barrels.
