Miguel Merino, Rioja La Loma 2023
La Loma was planted in 1946 and covers an area of 1.4 hectares. It is located in the southwest of the municipality of Briones, at an altitude of 534 meters above sea level. The vineyard is trained in the traditional bush-vine (gobelet) system on an east-facing slope with a 7% gradient. It is a special site where the predominantly clay-limestone soils of the Sierra de Cantabria meet the clay–iron-rich soils of the Sierra de la Demanda.
90% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha. Sourced entirely from La Loma, a tiny, high-altitude, 1.4-hectare single vineyard planted in 1946 on poor, calcareous sandstone and clay soils. Matured for 14 months in French oak barrels to impart subtle complexity without overwhelming the fruit.
Expressive nose characterized by blackberries, cherries, and dried flowers layered with spices and coffee. Fresh and elegant with succulent fruit, fine-grained tannins, a unique saline edge, balanced acidity, and a long finish
