Perrini Primitivo 2022
From estate vineyards in the Gioia del Colle area of Puglia, where Primitivo—an ancient southern Italian grape closely linked to California Zinfandel—grows on higher-elevation limestone and clay soils. The vines are farmed organically, hand-harvested, fermented with native yeasts, and aged in large, neutral oak. This is a medium-to-full bodied, satisfying red, with black cherry, plum, and blackberry flavors, lifted acidity and fine tannin. A bit earthy, with hints of spice and purple flowers and a palate-whetting, bitter cocoa note on the finish; it is savory and food-friendly rather than sweet or heavy. Pairs it with grilled lamb, sausage with fennel, and eggplant parm.
