Mas Martinet Priorat Menut 2022

This Priorat red comes from Mas Martinet, founded in 1989 by Josep Lluís Pérez, one of the pioneers who helped revive Priorat as a world-class wine region. Today the estate is run by his daughter, Sara Pérez, and farms organically and biodynamically around Gratallops.

Garnacha leads the blend, joined by Carignan, Syrah, and Merlot, with fruit from the estate and nearby organic growers. The vines grow on Priorat’s signature llicorella slate, and the wine ages in 300-liter French oak barrels. The 2022 growing season was warm and dry.

Expect black cherry and blackberry with tobacco, black pepper, and wild spice, then a mineral, iron-tinged palate with lively acidity. It’s a great introduction to Priorat at an approachable price, and it pairs beautifully with lamb or hearty stews.
