Today Jean Boxler farms roughly 14 hectares organically, much of it on the steep granite slopes of Grand Cru Sommerberg, with the remainder in Grand Cru Brand. Grapes are picked by hand, fermented with native yeasts in old foudres, and bottled without fining, an approach that has earned the domaine a place among the very finest producers in France. Dudenstein sits on the lower and middle slope of Sommerberg, where granite gives way to limestone, and its old vines were planted in 1946 and 1953 by Jean’s grandfather.

Pale gold in the glass, the 2021 opens with a concentrated, highly refined nose of ripe orchard fruit, plum, citrus zest, and crushed stone, lifted by Dudenstein’s signature smoky, flinty edge. The palate is bone-dry, dense, and powerful yet beautifully streamlined, carried by the bright freshness of the vintage. A fine saline thread runs through to a long, layered, remarkably persistent finish.

A benchmark Alsace Riesling of grand cru stature, built to reward patient cellaring for two decades or more.
