COS Pithos Bianco 2024

Pithos Bianco 2024 from COS is a skin-contact white from Terre Siciliane IGP in Sicily, fermented and aged in terracotta amphorae, a method that made the estate a pioneer of Italy’s modern amphora revival.

COS was founded in 1980 in Vittoria, in southeastern Sicily, by three school friends, Giambattista Cilia, Cirino Strano and Giusto Occhipinti, whose initials form the estate’s name. Today the estate farms around 40 hectares under certified organic and biodynamic principles, working with native yeasts and minimal intervention. COS is widely regarded as one of Sicily’s benchmark producers, celebrated for its Cerasuolo di Vittoria and for helping inspire a generation of natural winemakers across the island.

Made from 100% Grecanico grown on red sandy soils over limestone and clay, the 2024 shows a luminous golden amber hue. Aromas of yellow plum, mandarin peel and orange blossom mingle with wild thyme, dried apricot and a hint of nutmeg. Extended maceration on the skins lends gentle grip and texture, while a saline, mineral thread and lively acidity keep the palate fresh and focused through a long, savory finish.

A thoughtful, food-friendly orange wine with real depth and personality, offering a rare taste of ancient tradition from one of Sicily’s most influential estates.
