Eminence Road Riesling - Lamb's Quarters Vineyard 2022

Eminence Road makes some of the more idiosyncratic bottlings coming out of the Finger Lakes, hand crafted in a converted cow barn on the western edge of the Catskills rather than in the region the grapes actually call home. Andrew Scott and Jennifer Clark started as home winemakers in suburban New Jersey back in 1996, when Andrew's brother handed him a winemaking kit as a gift, and the hobby grew steadily from basement to garage to barn until they crushed their first commercial vintage under the Eminence Road label in 2008; today they source fruit from the same handful of Finger Lakes growers they've worked with for nearly twenty years, trucking hand harvested grapes a hundred miles back to Long Eddy for a low intervention, gravity bottled approach with no fining or filtration. This Riesling comes from Lamoreaux Landing on the west facing, gentle slopes above Seneca Lake, a site of Honeoye silt loam and Lansing gravelly loam over shale that's certified sustainable, and it had an unusually long road to the bottle: fermentation, including full malolactic, dragged on in stainless steel for two full years before finally settling just shy of bone dry, after which the wine spent extended time on its lees before bottling unfined and unfiltered. The result is lightly spritzy with peach, lime, and ginger up front, a creamy texture in the middle from all that lees contact, and a bright lime zest finish. 750ml | Finger Lakes, New York, USA
