Eschol by Trefethen Red Blend Napa Valley
A supple, Bordeaux-style red, Eshcol Red Blend by Trefethen Napa Valley offers a true taste of one of Napa’s founding estates at a genuinely approachable price.
Trefethen Family Vineyards has farmed the cool Oak Knoll District in southern Napa since 1968, and in 1979 its Chardonnay was famously named the world’s best at the Gault-Millau World Wine Olympics, helping put Napa on the global map. Now led by the family’s third generation, the estate is fully estate-grown and sustainably farmed. The Eshcol name honors the property’s original 1886 winery, a historic gravity-flow building where early wines took home a remarkable share of awards at the 1889 Paris Exhibition.
Sourced entirely from Trefethen’s Main Ranch vineyard, this blend centers on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with Malbec, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc adding depth and spice. Deep ruby in the glass, it opens with aromas of blackberry, dried cherry, and a hint of cedar. The palate is bright and juicy, with red berry fruit, warm spice, modest tannins, and fresh acidity carried by the region’s cooling bay breezes.
An easygoing, food-friendly Napa red with serious pedigree, made for weeknight dinners and casual gatherings alike.
