Laurent Theodule Chambave Rouge 2024
A rare, mountain-grown red from one of Italy's smallest wine regions, the Laurent Theodule Chambave Rouge 2024 is a Chambave DOC blend of 80% Petit Rouge and 20% Syrah, grown on the steep, south-facing slopes of the Valle d'Aosta.
Laurent Theodule is a young, family-rooted estate located between Verrayes and Chambave, where vines have been tended across two generations — planted originally by Laurent's grandfather Marcello in the 1990s and later carried forward by his parents. Laurent trained in agricultural technology before taking over the family vineyards, and in 2023 the family made the leap from grape growers to producers, releasing their first two labels, including this Chambave Rouge. The vines grow on loose, sandy morainic soil with steep 30% slopes at 600–650 meters above sea level, in terrain so demanding that vineyard work remains largely done by hand — a hallmark of Chambave's alpine viticulture, one of the most extreme and labor-intensive settings in Italian winemaking.
The wine shows a ruby-red color with violet reflections, leading to an intense, precise nose of violet and rose. On the palate it's balanced and fresh, with a clear mineral imprint layered with red fruit, reflecting the cool mountain climate and poor, well-draining soils of its steep vineyard site.
It's a compelling, small-production expression of true alpine terroir — elegant and identity-driven, built to pair naturally with cured meats, soups, and roasted or grilled meats from the local Valdostana table.
