Rocca Bella Negroamaro 2024

This bright, food-friendly red comes from Rocca Bella's 2024 Negroamaro, a Puglia IGT bottling that channels the sun-baked character of Italy's deep south into an approachable, everyday glass. Sourced from Salento, the "heel" of Italy where Negroamaro has been cultivated for centuries, it's a wine built on immediacy and authenticity rather than pretense.

Negroamaro, whose name loosely translates to "black bitter," is grown almost exclusively in Puglia, and particularly in the Salento peninsula, where the hot, breezy climate allows the thick-skinned grape to ripen reliably and fully each year. Rocca Bella follows traditional Puglian winemaking practice, vinifying the grapes without any addition of concentrated must, letting the fruit express itself honestly. Primary fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperatures, a modern, precise approach that preserves freshness while still honoring the grape's naturally deep, robust character.

The 2024 vintage shows a deep red-violet hue with vivid purple edges, true to Negroamaro's reputation for intense color. On the nose, it offers an evocative perfume of tar, licorice, and red berries, layered with notes of ripe blackberry and dark cherry. The palate is sweet-fruited, spicy, and full of energy, with concentrated dark fruit and a touch of earthy spice giving way to a soft, supple finish.

Rustic yet polished, this is a Negroamaro that over-delivers for the price, pairing effortlessly with rich meat sauces, wood-fired pizza, and aged cheese.
